Answer
In rare cases children and adolescents up to age 19 have been diagnosed with the inflammatory disease known as multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) or paediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome (PIMS) after contracting the coronavirus.
In the children and adolescents affected, this inflammatory disease occurs between two to eight weeks after COVID-19 infection and can be serious.
Besides a generally poor state of health, the symptoms of the disease can include fever, gastrointestinal complaints, skin rashes and conjunctivitis. Paediatricians are familiar with this syndrome and will initiate the necessary additional examinations and treatment. If your child displays the symptoms described above, contact your paediatrician.
